3D & 4D PREGNANCY SCAN
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT 3D & 4D SCANS IN PREGNANCY
ALL YOUR DOUBTS ANSWERED
- What Are 3D and 4D Ultrasound Scans?
- 3D Scan: This type of ultrasound creates a three-dimensional still image of your baby in the womb. It provides a clearer picture of the baby’s facial features, spine, hands, and body.
- 4D Scan: A 4D ultrasound is similar to 3D but adds motion, allowing you to see your baby move in real-time, including sometimes yawning, stretching or pulling out the tongue depending on the fetal movements
- How Are 3D and 4D Scans Different From Standard 2D Ultrasounds?
- 2D Ultrasound: This is the standard ultrasound scan in pregnancy used for medical purposes. It provides a flat, two-dimensional cross-section of the baby.
- 3D/4D Ultrasound: These scans create a detailed and lifelike view of the baby’s features, adding depth and movement. While they are mostly used for bonding, they can sometimes help to better analyse detect facial, spine or limb abnormalities.
- When Is the Best Time to Get a 3D or 4D Scan?
The ideal time for a 3D or 4D scan is between 24-26 of pregnancy.
- Before 24 weeks, the baby may not have enough fat under the skin, making features less defined.
- After 32 weeks, the baby might be too big, making it harder to get a clear image.
- The 3D 4D Pregnancy Scan is usually done after or sometimes even at the time of the TIFFA Scan
- Are 3D and 4D Scans Safe?
Yes, 3D and 4D ultrasounds are considered safe when performed by trained professionals. They use sound waves, not radiation, meaning there is no known risk to the baby or mother.
- Are These Scans Necessary?
No, 3D and 4D ultrasounds are optional. They are not typically part of routine prenatal care and are mainly used for bonding. Standard 2D ultrasounds remain the best method for medical evaluations.
- Can a 3D or 4D Scan Determine My Baby’s Gender?
The fetal gender is not determined in the 3D scan or for that matter any other pregnancy scan in accordance with the PCPNDT ACT and guidelines.
- Can a 3D or 4D Scan Determine My Baby’s Gender?
The fetal gender is not determined in the 3D scan or for that matter any other pregnancy scan in accordance with the PNDT ACT and guidelines.
- Can a 3D or 4D Scan Detect Birth Defects?
While these scans can provide detailed images, they are not diagnostic tools. We normally rely on 2D ultrasounds to check for abnormalities, such as spine, facial, heart. Limb or any other defects as well as fetal growth.
- Will I Get Photos and Videos From My Scan?
Photography and Videography are not allowed in keeping with the PNDT Act. However, we do provide a printout and a soft copy of the 3D images which we have taken.
- How Long Does a 3D or 4D Scan Take? A 3D 4D Pregnancy Scan typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the fetal position and cooperation.
- How Should I Prepare for my 3D or 4D Scan?
- Bladder should be moderately full for better view and clearer images. Do not pass uribe just prior to the scan. However, an overfull bladder hampers clear views.
- Eat a light snack before your scan to encourage baby movement.
- Wear comfortable clothing for easy access to your abdomen for scanning.
